Visions of the Past: History, Biography and a Collaborative Visual Anthropology
Paper proposals are invited for the panel, Visions of the Past: History, Biography and a Collaborative Visual Anthropology.
Keywords: Visual Anthropology, History, Biography, Feminist Anthropology, and Collaboration
This panel seeks to contribute to the AAA 2008 theme ‘inclusion, collaboration, and engagement’ from a visual anthropological perspective by attending to the biographical mode for constructing the visual past. The biographical dimension of anthropological constructions of the past makes the production of anthropological knowledge, a collaborative project. This has important implications for visual anthropology, broadly recognized through its focus on visual practices and/or production of visual texts. While the regional context is open, we are interested in a mix of papers that connect with feminist perspectives and explore the biographical as collaborative in visual anthropology. Proposals for papers that either focus on histories of painting, film making, and cartooning among other visual practices, or visual productions such as virtual museums among other applications, are particularly welcome.
Please e-mail proposals (250 words maximum) to Ritu G. Khanduri (khanduri@uta.edu) by March 15, 2008.
