Assistant Professor,Art, Aesthetics or Popular Culture SUNY, Brockport
SUNY College at Brockport, Department of Anthropology seeks a tenure-track Cultural Anthropologist at the Assistant Professor level with a research specialization in art, aesthetics, or popular culture, to begin fall 2008. Candidate should have a demonstrated record of ethnographic field research and scholarly productivity. Area specialty is open but should complement existing faculty, and the successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of field research and scholarly productivity in their area. Secondary interests open, but preference given to: museum studies, visual anthropology, linguistic anthropology, or the anthropology of tourism. PhD in Anthropology must be in hand at time of appointment.
Preference will also be given to applicants with higher education teaching experience and a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness in addition to a commitment to undergraduate teaching/education and to student research.
The successful candidate is expected to teach 6 courses per year and engage in an active program of scholarship. Teaching responsibilities would include Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Ethnographic Experience, Anthropological Theory, and Anthropology as a Profession in rotation with current faculty, in addition to new courses in his/her areas of specialty such the anthropology of art, Aesthetics, Popular Culture, Museum Studies, etc.
